Using Local Tofino Salvaged Red Cedar Means
Beautiful Eco Furniture and a Sustainable Future
Adirondack Chair Online uses local salvaged Canadian red cedar eco lumber in
all our outdoor cedar furniture.
So you can relax in style knowing that you've made the right choice for the environment.
At Adirondack Chair Online respect for the environment is a top priority. In
the making of our quality red cedar outdoor furniture we feel it is important
not to cut down more forest. Our solution is to only use salvaged wood from our
local Tofino partner 'Salvage Towing'.
Salvage Towing finds logs that have fallen naturally due to storms into the
waters of Clayoquot Sound. These trees, which would otherwise just rot in the
ocean, are floated to an island in the Sound where the company has a small sawmill.
The trees are then milled and graded.
Once the wood is milled it is put on a small barge and travels by boat to
Tofino. The finest wood is selected for use by Adirondack Chair Online and delivered
to our shop. At the shop we sort the wood and then carefully place it into our
kiln to dry slowly. A slow drying of the milled wood is important to provide
the highest quality of lumber required for our cedar furniture.
After the wood has dried the hand-crafting of our furniture starts. Daniel,
the owner of Adirondack Chair Online, is personally involved in the entire process from
beginning to shipping. Quality is always upper most in the production of our
cedar chairs, tables and benches.
